Question
How can I ensure my OneDrive is signed in before I receive a new device from IT?
Step-by-step
How to check that your OneDrive is signed in on your device:
Signing Into OneDrive:
Windows:
Open File Explorer
On the left side of File Explorer, there should be an icon for OneDrive. It looks like this:
OneDrive-Western University
Mac:
Navigate to the Finder and open folder, "Applications"
Locate the OneDrive application in Applications. It will look like this:
Once you open the OneDrive application, you will either be signed in or a screen will pop-up asking you to sign in.
Please note: When you sign into OneDrive for the 1st time, it will most likely perform a 2-Step Verification. So it would be wise to have your 2-Step verification device near you.
Once you have ensured your device is signed in, please reference this key as to which files are synced to your OneDrive.
To double check that all files you'd want saved/backed-up you can also navigate to go.westernu.edu
When you sign into your online account, everything you see when clicking/opening the OneDrive will be synced and saved.
Benefits of using OneDrive account:
Easy organization:
You can store any kind of file on OneDrive be it photos, video, and documents, and then access them from any of your Windows PCs or mobile devices. Files are organized by type, so it’s easy to find what you need.
Close collaboration with Office:
As a Microsoft platform, OneDrive works closely with Microsoft Office apps, such as Word or PowerPoint – when you launch one of these applications you’ll see a list of recent documents, including those saved to OneDrive. If you have an Office 365 subscription and open a document saved in OneDrive, you can collaborate with it in real-time with other people.
