Connecting to the eduroam wireless network

What is eduroam?

eduroam is a Wi-Fi network that will allow you to sign in with your WesternU account and maintain WiFi access anywhere there is an eduroam network. Eduroam networks can be found all over the world, and are used by thousands of universities globally.

The eduroam interactive map can show you locations with an eduroam network. There is also an eduroam Hotspot finder app for both Android and iPhone. Or you can search through a list of available locations. 

Connecting to eduroam

Android and Chromebook

1. From the Home menu, go to Settings.
2. From Settings, choose Wi-Fi. Make sure Wi-Fi is set to ON.
3. From the available Wi-Fi networks, select eduroam.
4. On the eduroam screen:
   • (Optional) In the Phase 1 Authentication field: PEAP
   • (Optional) In the Phase 2 Authentication field: MSCHAPV2
   • In the CA Certificate field: select "Do Not Validate" (if this option is grayed out or only has "Use System Certificates" see the information in the line below)
   • In the Domain field: Leave Blank (if you cannot leave this blank due to the information above, enter westernu.edu for the domain)
   • In the Identity field: Enter your your full WesternU email address (e.g. username@westernu.edu)
   • In the Anonymous Identity field: Leave Blank
   • In the Password field: enter your WesternU Password
   • Select Connect.
5. You should now be connected to eduroam. 
   Note: Phase 1 & Phase 2 may be required depending on the Android or Chromebook version.

iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod)

1. Go to Settings, select Wi-Fi.
2. Select eduroam.
3. When prompted, enter the following:
   1. Username: Full WesternU email address (e.g. username@westernu.edu)
   2. Password: Your WesternU password
   3. Select Join
4. You will be prompted to accept the certificate 
   
5. After tapping Trust, you will be returned to the main Wi-Fi page and there should now be a check mark next to eduroam.

macOS

1. On the Mac desktop, click the Wi-Fi icon on the Status menu to display the available Wi-Fi networks.
2. Select eduroam.
3. Choose Automatic mode and insert the following:
   1. Username: Full WesternU email address (e.g. username@westernu.edu)
   2. Password: Your WesternU password
   3. Select Join/OK.
4. At the Verify Certificate window, select Continue.
   
5. At the window stating You are making changes to your Certificate Trust Settings. Type your password to allow this. Input your computer password and click Update Settings
6. Verify that you are now connected to the 'eduroam' network in the status menu.

Windows 10

1. Press the Windows key at the bottom left corner of the desktop/home screen.
2. Select Settings.
3. On the Settings screen, click the Network & Internet icon.
4. Go to the WiFi section, click Show available networks, and select eduroam.
5. The eduroam screen will display: 
   1. Username: Full WesternU email address (e.g. username@westernu.edu)
   2. Password: Your WesternU password
   3. Select Connect
6. A screen will appear asking if you want to continue connecting. Click Connect to acknowledge the screen and connect to eduroam.
