COMP/CPM Student iPad Setup and Information

This article is intended to be a reference for COMP/CPM students that were provided an iPad as part of their onboarding/registration process at WesternU. If you are bringing your own iPad, please view the article Enrolling your own iPad in Jamf - COMP/CPM instead.

Question

  • How do I setup my new iPad?
  • Do I need to download any special applications?
  • How do I add my WesternU email account to my new iPad

Step-by-step

When you turn on your new iPad, you will be presented with several screens before setup is complete. Please follow the instructions below:

  1. Select your language of choice
  2. Select "United States"
  3. On the "Quick Start" screen, select "Set Up Manually" which is located at the bottom
  4. For the Wi-Fi network, select "eduroam"
  5. On the pop-up, enter your WesternU user name and password, make sure your user name does not include @westernu.edu (e.g. jstudent). Click join when completed
  6. Click "Trust" on the Certificate pop-up. You can view the details if you like.
  7. Hit "Next" once you see the blue check mark next to "eduroam"
  8. The next screen will say "It may take a few minutes to activate your iPad" followed by "Retrieving configuration"
  9. The Remote Management screen will be next, it will explain a little what it does. COMP is using this method to distribute applications and special links to your new iPad. Hit "Next"
  10. Remote Management wants you to login. Enter your WesternU user name and password. Just like step 5 for Wi-Fi, do not put @westernu.edu at the end of your user name. When complete, hit "Next"
  11. The next screen will tell you that it's "Awaiting final configuration from Western University of Health Sciences"
  12. Hit "Get Started" on the Welcome to iPad screen
  13. Your iPad has now been configured. Several Apps will start installing such as Examplify and Self Service. This may not happen immediately and could take 10-15 minutes to complete

Additional Information

  • Self Service is an application that allows COMP to make Apps and Books available for download without using the App Store (you can still use the app store if you please).
  • You will not need to download any special applications COMP requires you to have. COMP will have the ability to deploy Apps to all COMP/CPM iPads
