How to Upgrade to Windows 11

Question

  • How is WesternU TechSupport going to upgrade WesternU Windows computers from Windows 10 to Windows 11? 

TechSupport will coordinate the upgrade of WesternU Windows 10 computers with scheduled upgrade dates, providing ample notice to users in advance.

For laptops specifically, the upgrade to Windows 11 will require the device to be on campus and connected to a docking station, as the process can take several hours to complete. 

Alternatively, users also have the flexibility to initiate the upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 at their convenience, either on or off campus, by following the instructions outlined below.

Upgrade Through Software Center

  1. The first method of updating Windows 10 to Windows 11 is through the Updates tabUploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  3. If neither of those options complete the upgrade of Windows 10 to Windows 11, please review the Updates Through Windows Updates section below. 

Upgrade Through Windows Updates

  1. I the Search field at the bottom left of the screen, type and select Windows Update Settings.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  2. There may be a notification windows displaying Upgrade to Windows 11 is ready, select the Download and install button to start the upgrade. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. If the Upgrade to Windows 11 is ready is not displayed, select Check online for updates from Microsoft Updates and that should prompt with the upgrade notification. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

Additional Information

  • Microsoft will end support of Windows 10 on October 14, 2025.
