Western University of Health Sciences utilizes Palo Alto GlobalProtect Client to obtain VPN access to Internal Campus Resources.
Please follow the instructions below to connect via VPN:
How to obtain and configure the GlobalProtect Client (Windows)
Obtain WesternU credentials and Certificate File from your Sponsor at WesternU
- You should be supplied with WesternU credentials and a certificate/passphrase pair prior to attempting to connect. If you do not yet have WesternU credentials or certificate, please contact your sponsor or techsupport@westernu.edu for assistance. You may also call techsupport at (909) 469-5432.
- Once you have obtained the certificate, right click it and choose Install PFX.
Use the supplied passphrase and install to your Current User and click next to the defaults for the rest. -->

You should see this message. Hit ok and proceed.
- Open a web browser and navigate to https://remote-vendor.westernu.edu/.

Download the Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent (or any other agent you may need for another operating system.)
- Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the prompts to complete the installation, clicking Next through all the defaults.



Once the installation is complete the GlobalProtect Panel will automatically open. A new icon will also be added to the notification area of your task bar.
Connecting to WesternU
On the GlobalProtect Panel enter remote-vendor.westernu.edu into the Portal field and then click Connect.
How to obtain and configure GlobalProtect (Mac)
Client Download and Install
- Refer to windows installation above for any detailed information.
- Obtain and install the certificate issued to you by IT or your sponsor using the passphrase supplied.
- Log into https://remote-vendor.westernu.edu and download the mac version of the GlobalProtect client.
Connecting to WesternU
- If GlobalProtect is not in the taskbar it can be launched from the Application list in Finder.
- Click on the GlobalProtect icon from the taskbar, in the application window click Connect.
- When prompted for a portal enter remote-vendor.westernu.edu
- You will be prompted for your login information, make sure to enter your full WesternU email address. E.g. affiliate@westernu.edu
- If your computer is MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or higher, you will need to accept the application before you can sign in
- Open the Apple menu and select System Preferences
- Click the Security and Privacy
- Click Allow next to "System software from developer 'Palo Alto Networks' was blocked from loading"
- Enter your WesternU password and click Sign In.
- Once connected the icon will show a green checkmark and state Connected.
Please ensure that you disconnect from the VPN when finished with the remote session by clicking the GlobalProtect icon and clicking Disconnect.
