Distinguished Partner VPN Access

Western University of Health Sciences utilizes Palo Alto GlobalProtect Client to obtain VPN access to Internal Campus Resources.

Please follow the instructions below to connect via VPN:

How to obtain and configure the GlobalProtect Client (Windows)

Obtain WesternU credentials and Certificate File from your Sponsor at WesternU

  1. You should be supplied with WesternU credentials, a certificate and passphrase prior to attempting to connect.  If you do not yet have WesternU credentials and your certificate, please contact your sponsor or techsupport@westernu.edu for assistance.  You may also call techsupport at (909) 469-5432.
  2. Install the certificate and use the supplied passphrase to your Local Machine and click Next through the defaults.
  3. Download the Download Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent (or open a web browser and navigate to https://remote.westernu.edu/global-protect/getsoftwarepage.esp)
  4. Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the prompts to complete the installation, clicking Next through all the defaults. Once the installation is complete the GlobalProtect Panel will automatically open. A new icon will also be added to the notification area of your task bar.

Connecting to WesternU

  1. On the GlobalProtect Panel enter remote-vendor.westernu.edu into the Portal field and then click Connect.
  2. You will be prompted for your login information, make sure to enter your supplied WesternU email address. Example: username@westernu.edu
  3. Enter the supplied password and click Sign In.
  4. You will then be prompted to enter your credentials again on the splash page.
  5. Once connected the icon will show a green checkmark and state Connected.

Please ensure that you disconnect from the VPN when finished with the remote session by clicking the GlobalProtect icon and clicking Disconnect.
 

How to obtain and configure GlobalProtect (Mac)

Client Download and Install

  1. Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent (or open a web browser and navigate to https://remote.westernu.edu/global-protect/getsoftwarepage.esp and select the installer for 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent.)
  2. Once downloaded you can double-click to open the file and run the installer.
  3. Follow the prompts to complete the installation, clicking Next when prompted.
  4. Once the installation is complete the GlobalProtect Panel will automatically open. A new icon will also be added to the notification area of your task bar.
  5. On the GlobalProtect Panel enter remote-vendor.westernu.edu into the Portal field and then click Connect.

Connecting to WesternU

  1. If GlobalProtect is not in the taskbar it can be launched from the Application list in Finder.
  2. Click on the GlobalProtect icon from the taskbar, in the application window click Connect.
    • When prompted for a portal enter remote-vendor.westernu.edu
  3. You will be prompted for your login information, make sure to enter your full WesternU email address. E.g. Techsupport@westernu.edu
    • If your computer is MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or higher, you will need to accept the application before you can sign in
      • Open the Apple menu and select System Preferences
      • Click the Security and Privacy
      • Click Allow next to "System software from developer 'Palo Alto Networks' was blocked from loading"
  4. Enter your password and click Sign In.
  5. Once connected the icon will show a green checkmark and state Connected.

Please ensure that you disconnect from the VPN when finished with the remote session by clicking the GlobalProtect icon and clicking Disconnect.
