Before You Start
Clearing the cache of a web browser can help resolve access and performance issues. Please be aware that clearing the cache can sometimes also delete the following:
- Saved passwords
- Address bar predictions and auto-complete searches
- Shopping cart contents, saved website data, etc.
Google Chrome
- In the browser bar, enter the following:
- chrome://settings/clearBrowserData
- At the top of the Clear browsing data window, click the Advanced tab
- Select the top 4 options:
- Broswing History
- Download History
- Cookies and other site data
- Cached images and files
- In the Time Range drop-down, select All Time
- Click Clear Data
- Quit and re-open all open windows
Firefox
- From the History menu, select Clear Recent History
- If the menu bar is hidden, press Alt to make it visible.
- From the Time range to clear: drop-down menu, select Everything.
- Next to Details, click the down arrow and select all items.
- Click Clear Now.
- Exit/quit all browser windows and re-open the browser.
Microsoft Edge
- In the top right, click the Hub icon (looks like star with three horizontal lines).
- Click the History icon (looks like a clock), and then select Clear all history.
- Select the follwing:
- Browsing history
- Cookies and saved website data
- Cached data and files.
- Click Clear.
- After the "All Clear!" message appears, exit/quit all browser windows and re-open the browser.
Internet Explorer 11
- Select Tools > Safety > Delete browsing history....
- If the menu bar is hidden, press Alt to make it visible.
- Deselect Preserve Favorites website data
- Select the following:
- Temporary Internet files or Temporary Internet files and website files
- Cookies or Cookies and website data
- History
- Click Delete. You will see a confirmation at the bottom of the window when the process is complete.
- Exit/quit all browser windows and re-open the browser.
Safari 8 and later
- From the Safari menu select Clear History... or Clear History and Website Data....
- Select the desired time range, and then click Clear History.
- Go to Safari > Quit Safari or press Command-Q to exit the browser completely.
Removing Saved Passwords
Google Chrome
- Open Chrome
- Navigate to the Settings Menu at the top right of the window (three vertical dots)
- Click Settings
- On the left menu, click Autofill
- Click Password Manager
- Look for the Saved Passwords section
- Find westernu.edu sites in the left column
- Click the Options menu to the right of the westernu.edu site
- Click Remove
- Restart Chrome
Firefox
- Open Firefox
- Navigate to the Settings Menu at the top right of the window (three horizontal lines)
- Click Settings
- On the left menu, click Privacy & Security
- Scroll down and find the Logins and Passwords section
- Click Saved Logins
- Find westernu.edu sites (adfs.westernu.edu, jprod.westernu.edu, etc.) in the left column
- Click the site and remove the password
- Click Remove once more to remove the password
- Restart Firefox
Safari
- Open Safari
- Navigate to Safari at the top of the screen
- Click on Preferences
- Click on Passwords
- You will be prompted to enter your Macbook credentials
- Search westernu.edu
- Select westernu.edu and hit the minus (-) button towards the bottom left hand of the window
- Click Delete Password
- Restart Safari
Microsoft Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge
- Navigate to the settings menu at the top right of the window (three horizontal dots)
- Click on Settings
- In the Profiles menu, click on Passwords
- Find westernu.edu sites (adfs.westernu.edu, jprod.westernu.edu, etc.) in the Website column
- Click the three horizontal dots to the right of the westernu.edu site
- Click delete
- Restart Edge
