Receive Your Certificate and Credentials
- Your sponsor will request VPN access for you and IT will create an account for you.
- We’ll email you a
.p12
certificate file and your GlobalProtect username (e.g., affiliate@westernu.edu
) to the email address that you supply to your sponsor.
- Reply to the email with a cellphone number and we’ll send an SMS with:
- The password for your GlobalProtect account.
- The passphrase for your
.p12
certificate.
Installing on Windows
- Download the certificate (
.p12
file) from your email.
- Double-click the
.p12
file.
- This starts the Certificate Import Wizard.
- Follow the prompts:
- Choose Current User store (if prompted).
- Enter the certificate passphrase (from the text message).
- You can leave everything default settings and click next through.
- Finish the wizard, and you should see a success message.
- Navigate to GlobalProtect portal at https://remote-vendor.westernu.edu and choose the Windows 64bit client.
- Install the client onto your machine. The portal address is remote-vendor.westernu.edu.
- Open GlobalProtect, enter your username ( e.g:
affiliate@westernu.edu
) and account password (texted to you).
- GlobalProtect should automatically pick up the installed certificate.
Installing on macOS
- Download the certificate (
.p12
file) from your email.
- Double-click the
.p12
file.
- This opens Keychain Access.
- Enter the passphrase you received via text when prompted.
- Confirm Keychain (default is “login”).
- Open GlobalProtect, enter your username (e.g.,
affiliate@westernu.edu
) and password (texted to you).
- GlobalProtect should detect the installed certificate automatically.
- Navigate to GlobalProtect portal at https://remote-vendor.westernu.edu and choose the MAC client.
- Install the client onto your machine. The portal address is remote-vendor.westernu.edu.
That’s it! If GlobalProtect doesn’t auto-detect, check its settings to ensure your new certificate is selected.
