How to Print From your Pharos Account

  • How do I use WesternU's Pharos Printing Service?

Information

Pharos printing is only available when the device is connected to the WesternU WiFi network. Jobs submitted to the queue will remain active for 24 hours, after which they will be deleted automatically. You will not be charged for jobs placed in your queue.

Submitting a Print Job

Via the Pharos Portal

  1. In a web browser, visit https://pharosweb.westernu.edu/myprintcenter/
    1. If prompted, sign in with your WesternU username (without @westernu.edu) and your current password.
  2. Jobs can be uploaded using the Upload  button in the top-left
  3. Jobs can be deleted by selecting their checkboxes and clicking Delete button in the top-left
  4. The bottom-left shows the funds available on your accounts, money can be added with the Add Funds button in this window
    1. Adding funds requires a Visa, Mastercard, or Paypal account
    2. The transaction fee is required and collected by Paypal, and is a fixed rate by the system

Via a Mobile App

Downloading the App

Users will need to download the Pharos Printing application for their respective devices

Once downloaded, open the app and input the information below:

  • Server Address: pharosweb.westernu.edu
  • Server Port: 443

Once configured, you may sign in with your WesternU username (without @westernu.edu) and your current password.

Submitting a Document

  1. In the app, documents can be uploaded using the Upload button in the top menu
  2. The bottom menu will show the funds available in your account, money can be added with the Add Funds button in this window

    2. The transaction fee is required and collected by Paypal, and is a fixed rate by the system

Via the Local Drivers

Installing Drivers

  1. In a web browser, visit https://www.westernu.edu/computing/pharos/ and click Drivers
  2. In the list, select the version for your campus (Pomona or Lebanon) and your operating system (Windows, or MacOS)
  3. Run the installer when finished downloading

Submitting a document

This process will install 2 printers to your computer, WesternU B&W, and WesternU Color. These printers will send your print jobs to the queue to be released at a later time.

  1. When printing a document, select either the WesternU B&W or the WesternU Color printer.
    1. The printer you select will set the price of the print. Black and white documents sent to the color queue will still be charged color pricing. 
  2. After printing the job, a popup will appear.
    1. In the top box, input your WesternU Username (without @westernu.edu)
    2. In the bottom box, input a name for the print job. This will display when releasing the print job.

Releasing a Print Job

Via the Pharos Portal

  1. In a web browser, visit https://pharosweb.westernu.edu/myprintcenter/
    1. If prompted, sign in with your WesternU username (without @westernu.edu) and your current password.
  2. Check the boxes next to all the documents you would like to print
  3. On the bottom of the page, select your colors, sides, and other print options. The cost of the jobs will appear on the right side of the screen
  4. Use the bottom-right box to select a printer. A full list of printers can be found HERE 
  5. Click Print. The documents will be sent to the printer and funds removed from your account. 
    1. Because the print jobs are sent immediately, please be at or near the printer to ensure that your prints are not accidentally taken by other students.

Via MobilePrint

  1. In the app, select the job(s) you wish to print.
  2. Use the Print Options menue to select color, sides, and other print options
  3. Use the Select a Printer menu to search and select the printer you wish to use
  4. Click Print. The documents will be sent to the printer and funds removed from your account. 
    1. Because the print jobs are sent immediately, please be at or near the printer to ensure that your prints are not accidentally taken by other students.

Via a Release Station

Release stations can be found near each WesternU pharos printer, and come in 2 forms. Touchpad and Computer station.

Print jobs sent via the WesternU Color Printer will not show up at release stations that are connected to Black and White printers

  1. At the touchpad/computer, sign in with your WesternU username (without @westernu.edu) and your current password
  2. Select the print job(s) you would like to release
  3. Press Print, the printer will automatically begin printing the select print job(s).
