Role Overview
Student Technology Representatives (Tech Reps) serve as the primary liaison between their class and the IT department. Their role is critical in ensuring smooth classroom technology operations and timely communication of issues.
Core Responsibilities
Be the Voice of Your Class
- Report technology issues promptly via https://support.westernu.edu.
- Share feedback and concerns proactively; do not assume others will report problems.
Provide First-Level Assistance
- Help lecturers with basic technology issues (e.g., microphone setup, audio checks).
- Attempt simple troubleshooting before escalating to IT.
Monitor and Report Trends
- Identify recurring or widespread technology issues in classrooms.
- Communicate these trends promptly to IT for resolution.
Communication & Collaboration
- Use Microsoft Teams to ask questions and collaborate with other Tech Reps and IT staff.
- Maintain open communication with IT; share your preferred method (Email or Teams).
- Respond to IT inquiries and provide updates on classroom technology status.
Technology Awareness
Stay informed by monitoring:
Promote best practices:
- Ensure ExamSoft is installed and updated; reboot before and after exams.
- Encourage proper use of printing systems (Pharos) and online proctoring tools (Honorlock).
Escalation & Support
- Know when to escalate issues to IT support immediately.
- Avoid prolonged troubleshooting that disrupts class flow.
- Assist with classroom technology training sessions when needed.
