Enviromux HEC Data Center Generator Power Alert
This alert means that the automatic transfer switch (ATS) serving the Data Center has engaged and transferred the electrical load to emergency generator power. The Enviromux reports this condition when Digital Input 1 changes to the closed state.
This alert confirms that the Data Center load is being supplied by the generator. It does not by itself identify why the transfer occurred, and it does not mean that the generator has failed.
Procedure
- Review the alert and note the time that the Data Center transferred to generator power.
- Notify Facilities immediately and advise them that the Data Center ATS has transferred the load to generator power.
- Ask Facilities to determine whether the transfer was planned or unplanned and to verify the ATS, generator, fuel supply, and any active generator alarms.
- Notify Network Operations so they can monitor Data Center network equipment, UPS systems, environmental conditions, and connectivity.
- Escalate immediately if the transfer was unplanned, the generator or ATS reports a fault, UPS systems remain on battery, or Data Center equipment begins reporting power problems.
Do not assume the condition is resolved simply because equipment remains online. The Data Center is operating on emergency generator power until the ATS transfers the load back to its normal power source.
Recovery Alert
A recovery alert means that Digital Input 1 has returned to the open state. This normally indicates that the ATS is no longer supplying the Data Center load from the generator. Facilities should confirm that the transfer back to the normal power source completed successfully and that the generator has returned to its normal standby condition.
