Change or Reset WesternU Password

Employees ONLY

I know my current password

  1. If you are signed in to a WesternU computer, you can reset your password by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete and clicking "Change a password". Please note the computer must be restarted and signed in to with your new password to resume normal access/functionality of WesternU app and services.  Please ensure you are connected to the campus network while on campus or via GlobalProtect when off campus.
  2. The Change a Password screen will have three (3) fields
    1. Password
    2. New Password
    3. Confirm New Password
  3. When selecting a new password be aware of the password requirements below:
    1. Must be at least 8 characters long
    2. Must contain at least 3 of the following:
      1. Lowercase letter
      2. Uppercase letter
      3. Number
      4. Symbol
    3. Cannot contain your name
    4. Cannot match any of your previous passwords
  4. Once successful, the password will be updated.

  • Please have your Employee ID number available. 

Current Students ONLY

I know my current password 

  1. In a web browser, access https://go.westernu.edu
    1. Log in using your full WesternU email address and current password
      1. If your password has expired, follow the prompts on the page to update it
  2. Once logged in, click the Settings wheel in the top-right
  3. Select Change your password
  4. Follow the prompts on this page, when selecting a new password be aware of the password requirements below:
    1. Must be at least 8 characters long
    2. Must contain at least 3 of the following:
      1. Lowercase letter
      2. Uppercase letter
      3. Number
      4. Symbol
    3. Cannot contain your name
    4. Cannot match any of your previous passwords

 

I do not know my current password

  1. In a web browser, access https://go.westernu.edu 
    1. If the page logs you in, select your initials or picture in the top-right and select sign out. Once signed out, access https://go.westernu.edu once again
  2. At the login page, click the link Can’t access your account? Forgot password?
    1. Enter your email address in the User ID: field and complete the CAPTCHA.
    2. Click Next
  3. You will need to verify your identity using 2 of the ways listed on this page
    1. Alternate Email: This will send an email with a code to the listed address
    2. Text/Call mobile phone: This will text/call the number listed and provide a code
  4. Once verified, the system will have you create a new password
  5. Please be aware of the password requirements:
    1. Must be at least 8 characters long
    2. Must contain at least 3 of the following:
      1. Lowercase letter
      2. Uppercase letter
      3. Number
      4. Symbol
    3. Cannot contain your name
    4. Cannot match any of your previous passwords
       

New Student Passwords

Incoming students have passwords that are automatically set up for their accounts. These passwords are temporary meaning after the first successful login (Normally at go.westernu.edu), a new password must be created. The formula for the password is below:

  • Capitalized First Initial
  • Birth Month (In two digits)
  • Lowercase Last Initial
  • Birth Day (in two digits)
  • Capital "S"
  • Birthyear (In four digits)
  • The symbol "#"

Student – “Charlie Brown” with a Date of Birth of 11/12/1987 would get a password of C11b12S1987#

After the first login, users will be prompted to create a new password for their account following the below requirements:

  1. Must be at least 8 characters long
  2. Must contain at least 3 of the following:
    1. Lowercase letter
    2. Uppercase letter
    3. Number
    4. Symbol
  3. Cannot contain your name

Recommend Steps After Updating Password

Once your password has been updated, you must re-configure your accounts and accesses to use your new password. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Devices on the WiFi
    • Users will need to "Forget" the network and sign in using their new password
  • WesternU computer accounts
    • Desktops: Users on a desktop computer will need to restart their computer and sign in using their new password
    • Laptops: Laptops will continue to use the old password until the laptop is updated by connecting to the WesternU network. This can be completed in a few ways:
      • Visiting WesernU campus, connecting to the network either via the Wi-Fi or an Ethernet Cable, and logging in with the new password
      • While off campus: Users will need to connect to Globalprotect, lock the screen (WIN+L) and logging in using their new password.
        • If users experience issues updating their laptop password while off-campus please contact TechSupport using the information in the Need More Assistance? section.
  • Email Clients
    • It is recommended to delete and re-add your WesternU email account to your mobile devices to ensure you continue to send/receive emails with no interruptions

 

Can't Sign In After Changing your Password?

If you are experiencing issues signing in to WesternU services with your new password, you may need to wait up to 30 minutes to allow the servers to sync the new password.
